XII FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS ANNUAL FORUM, THE TWO SIDES OF THE VALUE ADDED TAX AND A CRITICAL VIEW OF TAX REFORM IN PUERTO RICO
XII Financial Institutions Annual Forum
On March 27, 2015, Ileana Fernández Buitrago participated as speaker in the XII Financial Institutions Annual Forum sponsored by the Puerto Rico Association of Certified Public Accountants. The Seminar was attended by over 100 professionals most of which are related to the financial institutions industry. At the Seminar, Ms. Fernández Buitrago provided an update of the relevant legislation of interest to financial institutions professionals, approved during the past year. Ms. Fernández Buitrago has been invited to attend as speaker in this Forum for the past 12 consecutive years.
The Two Sides of the Value Added Tax
On April 8, 2015, Jorge M. Cañellas participated as a speaker in the Puerto Rico tax reform talk entitled “Las dos caras del IVA”, which translates into “The Two Sides of the Value Added Tax” sponsored by the University of Puerto Rico Law School Journal, where he joined PR Secretary of the Treasury Juan Zaragoza, economist Juan Lara and attorney and law professor Carlos Díaz Olivo who served as moderator. The activity was attended by around two hundred law students, professors and private practice lawyers and was transmitted via live stream by Microjuris.
A Critical Veiw of Tax Reform in Puerto Rico
On April 21, 2015, José A. Sosa Lloréns served as a panelist and moderator in a forum sponsored by the University of Puerto Rico Business Law Review titled “A Critical View of Tax Reform in Puerto Rico.” The forum discussed various issues related to the proposed introduction of a value added tax to Puerto Rico’s tax system and the issues related to its implementation and impact on the economy. The forum was held at the Aula Magna of the University of Puerto Rico School of Law and was attended by members of the legal, academic and business community and law students as well.
