José A. Acosta-Grubb is Special Counsel to the Litigation Division at Fiddler, González & Rodríguez, P.S.C.
Mr. Acosta regularly represents and counsels banks and holding companies in connection with shareholder derivative and class actions claims, securities claims, and claims against D&Os, as well as dispute resolution in all courts both Commonwealth and federal, at trial and appellate levels.
Among the noteworthy cases that Mr. Acosta has litigated successfully for his clients throughout the years, is his defense of the owners of the Dupont Plaza Hotel in the complex multi-district litigation that was generated as the result of a massive fire resulting in more than one hundred casualties, on December 31, 1986. He also successfully represented large telecommunications company in a far-reaching litigation that opened the long distance service market to broader competition among carriers. He also obtained favorable results in a multi-million dollar action for the recovery of a defective, computer program system purchased by the largest insurance company in Puerto Rico.
He has successfully represented various national, international and local developers and general contractors in complex actions in connection with some of the most noteworthy public and private development and construction projects in Puerto Rico. He was lead counsel representing the municipal agency that collects property taxes in Puerto Rico in various actions that concerned massive fraud conspiracies, de-privatization of the public function of collecting delinquent accounts, multi-million dollar collection actions against the largest municipalities of Puerto Rico as well as the Puerto Rico central government. He often handles actions related to the public bid process before the major Puerto Rico government agencies.

Before joining Fiddler, Mr. Acosta served as Assistant Solicitor General for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Assistant United States Public Defender, and Assistant United States Attorney for the PR District and Chief of its Civil Division.
