María Teresa Szendrey-Ramos is a Shareholder in the Corporate Division of Fiddler, González & Rodríguez, P.S.C. Ms. Szendrey-Ramos chairs Fiddler’s Trademark Registration Practice Group. She is also a member of the Board of Director.
At Fiddler, Ms. Szendrey-Ramos helped create one of the Island’s first intellectual property law practice groups. She has advised clients in multiple and complex trademarks, copyrights, trade secret, moral rights of authors, right of publicity and licensing issues under local and federal law, advise which she has provided in transactions and in the daily challenges faced by corporations in this complicated area of the law.
In the trust and estates field, Ms. Szendrey-Ramos has drafted numerous wills and testamentary trusts and has advised clients on the advantages of estate planning.
Ms. Szendrey-Ramos is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Puerto Rico Law School where she teaches an intellectual property course. She is also a frequent instructor for the University of Puerto Rico Continued Legal Education Program in her areas of practice.
Since 2001, Ms. Szendrey-Ramos is a member of the Trademark Act Reform Commission of the Puerto Rico Department of State’s Trademark Office. She was a member of the Puerto Rico Bar Board of Examiners from 1998 until 2009, and from 2007 to 2010 of the Puerto Rico Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Commission. In 2010 she was asked to join the Advisory Committee of the Continued Legal Education Program of the University of Puerto Rico Law School. In 2011 and again in 2012, she was designated member of the Enterprise Launching Committee of the Successful Women Program of a major Puerto Rican financial services institution. Since 2006 she serves as the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Partnership for a Drug Free Puerto Rico.
From 1990 to 1992, she clerked for the Honorable Federico Hernández Denton, who served as Chief Justice for the Puerto Rico Supreme Court from 2009 to 2014.
Since 2009, Ms. Szendrey Ramos has been named by Chambers & Partners Latin America as a Leading Individual (Band 1) in Intellectual Property.
Maria Teresa Szendrey was recognized by Best Lawyers® as the 2016 Intelectual Property Law "Lawyer of the Year" in Puerto Rico.
