Rafael R. Vizcarrondo is Counsel for Fiddler, González & Rodríguez, P.S.C.
Mr. Vizcarrondo has been the lead attorney in a number of well known cases in Puerto Rico and set a precedent by establishing the absence of liability of banks for construction defects in buildings financed by the bank. He has also litigated many noteworthy cases involving the doctrines of inverse condemnation and piercing the corporate veil. Mr. Vizcarrondo was lead counsel for the main defendant in the San Juan Dupont Plaza Hotel fire where 96 persons died, a $1.7 billion multi-district litigation that laid the groundwork for many MDL cases that followed.
He is actively involved in civic and professional affairs. He is the author of a number of articles published in the Puerto Rico Bar Association Law Review Journal and the University of Puerto Rico Law Review, and served as a member of the Puerto Rico Board of Bar Examiners. Mr. Vizcarrondo was appointed by the Governor as the President of the Committee on Amendments to the Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence and served from 1974 to 1976.
Mr. Vizcarrondo was the former Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chairman of Fiddler’s Litigation Division
In 1962 Mr. Vizcarrondo received the Puerto Rico Bar Association’s Award for Most Outstanding Student and Highest Academic Average in the Graduating Class. During that year, he also served as a Teaching Fellow for the University of Puerto Rico Law School and as Vice Editor of the Law Review. Mr. Vizcarrondo subsequently became a Director and Lecturer at the West Indies Industrial Institute from 1967 through 1972. In 1976, he was nominated and began service as an Honorary Puerto Rico Superior Court Judge, a position that he held until 1980.
Rafael Vizcarrondo was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Puerto Rico 2016 in the field of Litigation.
